Notre Dame vs. Auburn

It’s shocking that two of the most legendary programs in college football history have never met, even in a bowl.

Both teams rank in the top 20 in wins, winning percentage, Heisman winners, NFL draft picks, first round picks and weeks in the AP Poll.

Auburn has been all over the place over the last decade, from winning a national title to playing for another to one of the worst seasons in program history. Notre Dame has had much of the same, minus the championship.

When these teams are good, they’re elite. Even when both teams are average, expectations don’t change. Both programs are expected to be near the top of the polls every season and there is no valid excuse as to why it didn’t happen.

Both current head coaches are seemingly regarded as either one of the top in the country or on the hot seat with their respective fanbases calling for their jobs. At times, it feels like there’s absolutely no inbetween.

A home-and-home between the Fighting Irish and Tigers would undoubtedly be one of the biggest single regular season games of that generation. Considering both are usually in the running for a national championship, the College Football Playoff implications in this series would be massive.
