College Football: 8 non-conference home-and-homes that need to happen
LSU vs. USC
Two more usual college football powers, these elite programs have not met since 1984. In two meetings, each team has won on the other’s home turf.
It’s impressive that their paths have not crossed in so long, especially given the success of the programs. Since the turn of the century, USC and LSU have combined for five national championships (both claim the 2003 crown) and four Heisman Trophy winners.
A dream showdown between 2005 USC and 2019 LSU would be an incredible experience, but a game between the 2020 and beyond versions would be just as thrilling.

Plus, there’s the underlying storyline: Coach O.
Ed Orgeron was the interim coach at USC in 2013 following Lane Kiffin’s now infamous airport firing. Coach O actually did a great job, turning a 3-2 walking disaster into a 10-4 finish that included a stunning win over 5th ranked Stanford.
Even with that success, the Trojans decided to move on. The rest is history. Since then, USC has made wrong hire after wrong hire, with one coach fired after two seasons and another currently on the hot seat.
As for LSU, it’s fair to say things have turned out fairly well. A national championship, Heisman winner, and one of the, if not the, best single teams in college football history.
A matchup between the Tigers and Trojans would give USC at least a thought that they made the right choice. An LSU win would be the ultimate slap in the face from Orgeron to USC. Either way, there would be a lot on the line for both programs.
