SEC Football: Each team’s top Heisman Trophy candidate for 2020
By Dante Pryor
It is a difficult ask of anyone to come in and play to the level of Joe Burrow. That is exactly what the LSU Tigers are asking of redshirt junior quarterback Myles Brennan. He does not have the luxury of the players Burrow had last season either.
Ja’Marr Chase is back, but there is no Justin Jefferson nor Clyde Edwards-Helaire. They lost a ton along their offensive line. There was also a mass exodus on their defense including defensive coordinator Dave Aranda.
Not only does Brennan lose all of these talents, but Joe Brady is also off to the NFL. He is now the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers. Replacing Brady as passing game coordinator is veteran coordinator Scott Linehan.
Can the Linehan/Brennan connection work like the Burrow/Brady connection?
If LSU wants to repeat as SEC champion with an opportunity to play for a national title, Brennan has to be the man. He’ll need some “Cam factor.” Though the talent is not marginal, it’s inexperienced save for Chase.
The Burrow Principle will definitely be in play for Brennan. His game would need to level up big time and so would his numbers. If Brennan leads the Tigers anywhere close to a repeat of last season, he’s definitely going to The Big Apple.
