SEC Football: Each team’s top Heisman Trophy candidate for 2020
By Dante Pryor
Without turning this into a Kentucky preview post, no one is talking about the Wildcats chances in the SEC East. Everyone wants to see if Florida can challenge Georgia and whether or not Tennessee can take the next step toward being “back,” but no one is talking about Kentucky.
They are a long way from being the little engine who could from Lexington. The Wildcats are even further away from being the basketball school trying to get good at football. Head coach Mark Stoops has made the University of Kentucky a relevant football school.
This season, Terry Wilson returns at quarterback behind a veteran offensive line that might be one of the two or three best in the SEC this season. The Wildcats want to play power football, however. That means lots of carries for redshirt senior Asim Rose.
Not only should we expect lots of carries from Rose, but also expect lots of touches as well. Of all of the mid-tier SEC teams on this list so far, the Wildcats are most legit. One could argue they are a dark horse in the SEC East.
If the Wildcats make a run, they are playing complementary football with the running game taking the lead, and that means Asim Rose sniffing a 2,000 yard 25 touchdown season. That does not include other ways he’s sure to get touches as well.
