Charlottesville (Va.). 5. 888. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Oct. 3. Virginia Cavaliers. player

In a matchup against last year’s Coastal division champion, North Carolina will travel to Virginia and hope to keep the momentum going into October.

Virginia is going to look like different than they did last season with the departures of dual-threat quarterback Bryce Perkins and star cornerback Bryce Hall. The Cavaliers will be looking to Mississippi State transfer Keytaon Thompson to steady the offense and he will be dual-threat a lot like Perkins was last season.

I think this is where the Tar Heels could slip up. After a tough September against big time opponents, the Tar Heels may be overlooking Virginia. This is the kind of trap game that the Tar Heels have not experienced yet. Cavaliers get the upset at home.

Final Score: North Carolina 24, Virginia 27 (4-1, 1-1)

6. player. 847. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Oct. 10. Chapel Hill (N.C.). Virginia Tech Hokies

After being upset a week prior, the Tar Heels will need to rebound quickly against a Virginia Tech team that will be looking to stake its claim as the Coastal’s best team.

The Hokies are bringing back an experienced team that is looking to see how much it can improve with quarterback Hendon Hooker ready to be the starter for the whole season. Head coach Justin Fuente is under a little bit of pressure to deliver a Coastal title after struggling in the seasons since winning the division in 2016.

With the game being in Chapel Hill, I’m giving the edge to the Tar Heels in this one. They will be refocused on their big picture goals after having a wake-up call in Charlottesville.

Final Score: North Carolina 35, Virginia Tech 31 (5-1, 2-1)
