How will Western Michigan football fare in 2020?

These predictions are made with the assumption of no injury or anything related to COVID-19 interfering with the season.

  • Game 1: vs. Stony Brook (W) — The Broncos will start the season off with a win vs. an overmatched FCS opponent.
  • Game 2: at Cincinnati (L) — The Bearcats will be one of the Group of Five’s best teams and have a very good defense.
  • Game 3: at Notre Dame (L) — Notre Dame is a team with playoff aspirations and will make quick work of the Broncos — if they play — at home.
  • Game 4: vs. Syracuse (L) — This is a winnable game at home, but Dino Babers will have Syracuse ready to go.
  • Game 5: at Ball State (L) — Another tough road game for the Broncos against a team with conference title aspirations.
  • Game 6: vs. Toledo (W) — Toledo has been a really consistent program, but the Broncos get a much-needed win at home.
  • Game 7: at Central Michigan (W) — The Chippewas had a great turnaround last season and will be looking to be even better in 2020, but the Broncos find a way to win against their rivals.
  • Game 8: at Kent State (W) — Kent State had breakout season a year ago, but might be coming back down to earth with some key starters gone.
  • Game 9: vs. Eastern Michigan (W) — Chris Creighton has built a really successful program at a tough place to win. Broncos win against their in state opponent.
  • Game 10: vs. Northern Illinois (W) — The Huskies may be in for a bit of a down year in 2020 and the Broncos get a big win here.
  • Game 11: at Akron (W) — The Zips were winless a year ago and 2020 might not be that much better.
  • Game 12: Buffalo (L) — The Broncos end the season with a tough loss against the MAC favorite.

Final Record: 7-5, 6-2 MAC

The schedule is a bit front loaded with a tough non-conference slate and a road game at Ball State, but the middle of it sets up nicely for a rebound and a potential run at the MAC title.
