Why Jim Harbaugh has been a good head coach

You can say a lot of negative things about Jim Harbaugh, but the guy is a near-perfect fit at the University of Michigan.

A part of me feels bad for him, because under different circumstances, he could have been a legendary coach. Under him, the Wolverines have been ranked in the top 10 more in five years than they were for an entire decade before. But he joined the Big Ten while Michigan State was still thriving and Ohio State was about to reach incredible heights.

Take OSU out of the conference and Jimbo might have three or four Big Ten titles.

On any given week, Michigan will compete against 13 out of 14 Big Ten teams and isn’t the team you want coming up on your schedule. A lot of this is likely due to the fact that year in and year out, Harbaugh has done an elite job recruiting top talent to Ann Arbor.

Jim has also done wonders for the Michigan brand. Whether they deserved it or not, they’re in the national discussion every single year because this man is close to being the most marketable head coach in the game. Some call him a clown, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with his off-the-field antics. They keep the brand relevant, something that my rival Spartans have struggled to do on the field.
