Texas football: Game-by-game predictions for 2020 season
Like West Virginia, Texas Tech is under a second-year head coach and will be looking to improve and make a bowl game.
The Red Raiders will be potent once again on offense, if quarterback Alan Bowman can stay healthy, as they return eight starters to the nations seventh ranked pass offense, including star wide receiver TJ Vasher. The Red Raiders will be hoping to improve on defense, as they ranked near the bottom in most major defensive categories.
Texas Tech is a popular pick to be a potential darkhorse in the Big 12 due to its explosive offensive led by Bowman. Head coach Matt Wells has a reputation as a program builder and the Red Raiders have what it takes to win in the Big 12, but they won’t be able to stop Texas’ offense.
Final Score: Texas 48, Texas Tech 35 (6-1, 3-1
One of the most surprising teams in the country last season, Baylor was one win away from the College Football Playoff, but could not find a way to upend Oklahoma last season and the Sooners stole the playoff bid from the Bears.
Now, the Bears will have to rebuild a bit as a program because head coach Matt Rhule decided to take a job with the Carolina Panthers and the program decided to hire LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda to take over and he will have to replace a lot of starters from last year’s 11-win team.
The offense will have the luxury of having quarterback Charlie Brewer back for his senior season and that is a big boost for an offense that will be missing its biggest threat on the outside in Denzel Mims.
Aranda hired former North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora as the offensive coordinator and he is a well-respected offensive mind and should keep the offense rolling. The defense will to reload since they are only returning two starters and that could be the key for the Bears’ season. Baylor will be a tough team to beat, but the Longhorns get the job done at home.
Final Score: Texas 28, Baylor 24 (7-1, 4-1)
