Pac-12 Football: Each team’s top Heisman Trophy candidate for 2020
By Dante Pryor
In order for Jacob Sirmon to get on anyone Heisman watch list, he needs to win the job first. The competition is fairly stiff, but Sirmon should be “next Jake up” after the previous two Jakes — Browning and Eason.
Sirmon will get the ball back a lot. The Husky defense looks to push Oregon’s defense as best in the conference. First-year offensive coordinator John Donovan is without Salvon Ahmed, Aaron Fuller and Hunter Bryant from last season’s offense, but this could be the case of addition by subtraction.
They bring in two stud receivers this past recruiting cycle in Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillian. Sophomore Puka Nacua was the No. 1 player out of Utah and will slide into one of the two receiver slots this season.
Sirmon is no slouch himself either. He was the No. 1 player in the state of Washington when he committed to stay local and play for the Huskies. He will have plenty of talented receivers to throw the ball around to this season.
This could be one of Washington’s more talented offenses. The key to Sirmon’s success is the development of the offensive line. They lost three linemen, including both tackles from last year’s unit. If the offensive line comes together and Sirmon has a big year, he could make a watch list or two.
