Clemson Football: Top 3 All-ACC candidates for 2020
By Riley Platt
Behind most great teams is a great running back, and Clemson is no exception. Travis Etienne has quickly become one of the best runners in the country. There was speculation as to whether the Louisiana native would go pro, but he ultimately decided to return for his senior year.
Etienne saw a small decline in his stats from 2018 to 2019, but was still a versatile contributor for the Tigers nonetheless. Over the last two years alone, he has racked up a total of 43 touchdowns. Etienne’s power is one of the Tigers’ biggest strengths on offense, as he can ram his way through defenders to keep the chains moving.
With most of an opponent’s attention being devoted to Trevor Lawrence, it has and will allow Etienne to shine and continue to pile up impressive numbers. This aspect of the Clemson offense is what makes it so dangerous: they can get you on the ground and through the air.
Etienne made his way onto the All-ACC first team in both of the last two seasons, so it’s hard to see him slowing down anytime soon. He has set a high standard for anyone looking to dethrone him as the league’s top rusher.
