How will Louisiana Tech football fare in 2020?

The Bulldogs don’t have any daunting non-conference foes on the schedule in 2020, but they do face some challenging road games this season and they may have to pull some upsets if they want to challenge for the C-USA title and make a seventh straight bowl game.

The C-USA has not made a decision as to whether they should play a conference only schedule like the Big Ten and Pac-12 have so these predictions could change a lot in the next few weeks.

  • Game 1: at UNLV (W) — UNLV is a struggling program and this should be a win to start of the season for the Bulldogs.
  • Game 2: at Southern Miss (L) — The Eagles will have a very good offense and will be able to score at will on such an inexperienced defense.
  • Game 3: vs. Prairie View A&M (W) — Louisiana Tech should get another easy win against the FCS Panthers.
  • Game 4: at Baylor (L) — Baylor is reloading under new coach Dave Aranda, but the Bears will be a tough team to beat on the road.
  • Game 5: vs. UTEP (W): UTEP is another program that is struggling currently and the Bulldogs will be able to win big here.
  • Game 6: vs. Marshall (W) — Marshall is one of the top teams in the C-USA, but I think the Bulldogs pull the upset at home.
  • Game 7: at UTSA (W) — UTSA will be at the bottom of the C-USA standings this year and even at home, the Roadrunners can’t pull the upset.
  • Game 8: vs. UAB (L) — UAB is the favorite in the conference and will have a terrific defense yet again. Expect a low scoring game here, but the Blazers eke out the victory.
  • Game 9: at North Texas (W) — North Texas is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2019, but can’t beat the Bulldogs at home.
  • Game 10: vs. Rice (W) — Rice has one of the worst offense in the country and will have a hard time scoring on a defense that should be solid by this point in the season.
  • Game 11: at Vanderbilt (L) — I think the Bulldogs are capable of pulling the upset, but Vanderbilt is desperate to get back to a bowl and gets the win here.
  • Game 12: at FIU (L) — The Panthers are another team losing a lot of starters from the previous year, but Butch Davis will get the win at home.

Final Record: 7-5, 5-3 C-USA

The Bulldogs face a very manageable schedule and should be able to navigate it to get to the programs seventh straight bowl game. Last year’s 10-win season will be hard to duplicate but with so many starters gone, 7-5 should be considered a success.
