Washington football: Updated game-by-game predictions for 2020
In the rivalry known as the Apple Cup, Washington will head to Pullman to battle Washington State and new Huskies coach Jimmy Lake will look to continue the dominance over the Cougars that was so prevalent under Chris Petersen.
Washington State will be under new leadership after Mike Leach left for Mississippi State and the new face will be former Hawaii coach Nick Rolovich, who ran the run-and-shoot offense with the Rainbow Warriors and will look to make the transition from Leach’s air-raid system seamless. The Cougars will be searching for a new quarterback after last year’s starter Anthony Gordon graduated and went to the NFL.
The Huskies’ dominance in this series will continue in 2020. The Cougars have some nice pieces to work with on offense, but the defense will struggle yet again. Rolovich will be a nice fit in Pullman, but 2020 will be a transition year for him
Final Score: Washington 35, Washington State 24 (7-2)
For the season finale. the Huskies will head to Los Angeles to take on what might be the Pac-12’s most talented team. Even though embattled head coach Clay Helton returns for another season, USC is expected to contend for a Pac-12 title and could even be contenders for a College Football Playoff spot with a conference schedule.
The Trojans’ offense will be among the best in the country and the man to lead that charge will be quarterback Kedon Slovis, who came out of nowhere to have a great season. The wide receiving corps is deep and talented and the offensive line returns three starters. The question mark for USC will be on defense and they are relying on former Houston and Texas defensive coordinator Todd Orlando to fix that side of the ball.
The Huskies defense will be well equipped to face the Trojans offense and get some key stops. The offense will have to be ready for a shootout however because even though Washington has a good defense, USC is capable of scoring on anyone at will.
USC wins a close one to end the regular season.
Final Score: Washington 20, USC 27 (7-3)
