USC football: Updated game-by-game predictions for 2020
In a potential Pac-12 championship game preview, USC will travel to Autzen Stadium to face what could be an Oregon team with playoff aspirations. USC will be looking to avenge last seasons 56-24 beatdown that they got at the hands of the Ducks and this will be another chance for Clay Helton to try and prove to the Trojans fanbase that he is the man for the job.
The two teams don’t play annually, which is a shame, because these are the two premier programs in the Pac-12.
This is a tough matchup for the Trojans because of the Ducks defense and how it can matchup with USC’s explosive offense. Oregon is a physical football team and that will be a huge advantage that they have over the Trojans, as they have the best left tackle in the country in Penei Sewell and one of the top pass rushers in the country in Kayvon Thibodeaux.
This will be a closer game than 2019, but the Ducks will prevail against USC. Expect a rematch later in the season, however.
Final Score: USC 28, Oregon 38 (6-1)
In the game that could decide the Pac-12 South, Arizona State and USC will meet in what will be a huge matchup for the Trojans and the Sun Devils.
Arizona State has become a trendy pick to win the Pac-12 South and the conference title, mostly because of the potential of sophomore quarterback Jayden Daniels and what should be a solid Sun Devils defense.
Herm Edwards hire was met with much ridicule, as was the decision to run the football program more like an NFL organization. Edwards has exceeded expectations, going 7-6 his first season and then 8-5 last year — 2020 could be the big break through for Edwards and the football program.
The Trojans have split the two games during Edwards first two seasons in Tempe and this game will carry huge implications. The winner will have the lead in the Pac-12 South and will present themselves as the biggest threat to Oregon in the conference. This will be a close game, but Slovis will outplay Daniels and earn a big victory to close out the month of September.
Final Score: USC 35, Arizona State 27 (7-1)
