Alabama Football: Updated game-by-game predictions for 2020
Last year gave the sport of the college football another variation of “the game of the century” between No. 2 LSU at No. 3 Alabama. The winner of the game would be in the driver seat for the SEC West as well as the leader of the Heisman Trophy race between Joe Burrow and Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
The Tigers defeated the Crimson Tide last season with a 46-41 score for the first time since the Tide’s 21-0 victory over the Tigers in the 2012 BCS National Championship. The Tigers beat the Tide in Bryant-Denny Stadium for the first time since the first “game of the century” matchup.
Now the Tigers are having to reload on key players like Burrow as well as key assistants on both sides of the ball. This game will be a critical moment for both teams as Ed Orgeron wants to continue his status as an elite coach. The Tide looks for revenge and a push towards the top of the West.
LSU will have only three starters returning on offense and five starters returning on defense from last year’s championship team. There will be many Alabama players that will remember the disappointment they suffered at the hands of the Tigers.
Whenever it’s a revenge game for the Tide, they come back with a hard vengeance.
Final Score: Alabama 37, LSU 28 (7-0)
The Kentucky Wildcats were the extra team the Crimson Tide were assigned to play for their conference-only schedule. This was an interesting selection as the Crimson Tide thought to play Florida with their last regular matchup coming from the 2014 season.
The last time the Crimson Tide played the Wildcats was in 2016 when they defeated Kentucky 34-6 score in Tuscaloosa.
The Crimson Tide have only lost to the Wildcats twice in the 40 games against the team. Kentucky has turned themselves into a team that can contend for the SEC East title leading into November. This past season was a difficult season for the Wildcats due to the injuries that they encountered.
This season, the Wildcats look to be more consistent with the numerous experienced players they have returning. The Wildcats return eight starters on the offensive side of the ball and seven starters on the defensive side of the ball from last year.
The Wildcats are known to develop underrated and undervalued recruits and turn them into efficient playmakers. The Crimson Tide have more productive players to keep them stabilize in key game situations. While head coach Mark Stoops can keep the Wildcats in the game versus the Crimson Tide, they will be a difficult situation to be in a close game.
Final Score: Alabama 36, Kentucky 17 (8-0)
