Wake Forest football face uphill battle to make fifth straight bowl game
How will Wake Forest football fare in 2020?
The ACC is doing away with divisions this year and will take the top two teams in the conference by winning percentage and they will play in the ACC championship. Here’s what the revised schedule looks like for the Demon Deacons.
How will Wake Forest fare?
- Game 1: vs. Clemson (L) — This will be a big loss for the Demon Deacons.
- Game 2: at NC State (L) — The Demon Deacons get upset on the road by an NC State team that will be desperate for a win.
- Game 3: vs. Notre Dame (L) — Notre Dame is looking to return to the playoff and is just too talented and well-coached for Wake Forest.
- Game 4: vs. Virginia (W) — Virginia is poised to take a step back with the loss of quarterback Bryce Perkins and will have a hard time getting back to a bowl game.
- Game 5: vs. Virginia Tech (L) — The Hokies will be a very experienced team and challenge for the Coastal title in 2020.
- Game 6: at Syracuse (W) — Syracuse is tough on the road, but Wake Forest will find a way to pull the mild upset.
- Game 7: at North Carolina (L) — The Tar Heels are poised for a big season behind a powerful offense led by Sam Howell and Wake Forest won’t be able to keep up.
- Game 8: at Duke (W) — Duke will be better on offense with Clemson transfer quarterback Chase Brice at the helm, but Wake Forest will outscore them in a close one.
- Game 9: vs. Miami (W) — This may shock some, but Many Diaz still has a lot to prove as a head coach after being upset by Georgia Tech, FIU and Duke last season and the Canes have not been known to live up to preseason hype.
- Game 10: at Louisville (L) — The Cardinals will have a fantastic offense and I don’t think Wake Forest is good enough to keep up against a suspect Louisville defense
Final Record: 4-6
Wake Forest will be a tough out for any team on the schedule minus Clemson, but will need to pull off several upsets in order to make a bowl game. Games against North Carolina and Louisville will be tough due to both teams fire power and the fact that Wake Forest is replacing a lot of firepower themselves.
