The Hokies are a bit of an anomaly this season. Head coach Justin Fuente has found his quarterback in Hendon Hooker. Do the Hokies have the talent at the skill positions to score points to compete in the ACC this season?

How will the defense look without longtime defensive coordinator Bud Foster retiring? The Hokies have a lot of questions coming into this season. The Cardinals have the offensive firepower to take advantage of the new defensive scheme.

The Cardinals win this one.

Final Score: Louisville 42, Virginia Tech 24 (4-3, 3-3)

Last season, the Cardinals won at home 28-21. It is going to be difficult for the Cavaliers to pull off the victory this season because of all the talent that lost. The Cavaliers lost their two top receivers, quarterback Bryce Perkins, and two of their top defenders.

Continuity and talent are both imperative this season. With a shortened offseason, low turnover helps a program. The Cavaliers are turning over a lot of their roster; they do not have as much turnover as the Cardinals.

The Cavaliers are going t have difficulty stopping the Cardinals’ offense. Despite Louisville’s defensive woes, the Cavaliers don’t have enough offense to take advantage.

The Cardinals by two possessions.

Final Score: Louisville 35, Virginia 21 (5-3, 4-3)
