Georgia Bulldogs

The Georgia Bulldogs have easily the most players represented in the Senior Bowl Top 250, with 11 of the 250 players residing in Athens. The prominence of the Bulldogs on the list adds credence to my assertion that Georgia is set to be the team to beat in 2020.

Amongst a host of bigger names on the list, wide receiver Demetris Robertson would probably be the biggest beneficiary from a trip to Mobile next January.

The former Cal receiver had a standout season as a freshman for the Golden Bears, but his career since has failed to live up to that promise. The speedy wide receiver has shown he can contribute all over the field for the Bulldogs, rushing for 109 yards on four carries in his first season in Athens whilst also returning kicks.

With fellow wide receiver Dominick Blaylock sidelined with another torn ACL, Robertson will have the opportunity for an elevated role in 2020 which could increase his chances of suiting up in Mobile.

Quarterback Jamie Newman wasn’t in the original Senior Bowl Top 250 release but was added shortly after. The former Wake Forest standout finds himself in a quarterback battle at the Bulldogs with another transfer J.T. Daniels but is expected to start the season. An intriguing talent with a strong arm, physical build, and an ability to move the chains with his arms or legs, Newman can allay some of the concerns about his game by putting on a show in Mobile.

The pride of the Bulldogs’ Senior Bowl Top 250 litter is safety Richard LeCounte III.

An instinctive safety with incredible football intelligence, LeCounte has the production numbers to back up his ability. Last year alone he had four interceptions, whilst his four forced fumbles speak to his tenacity as a player. The former five star recruit may have concerns leveled at him  for his slight stature and a lack of top end athleticism but he plays above all of those alleged limitations.

LeCounte might not currently have the hype that some other safeties in the 2021 NFL Draft class have but an impressive showing in Mobile would begin to right that wrong.

Robertson, Newman and LeCounte are joined on the Senior Bowl Top 250 list by teammates Ben Cleveland, D.J. Daniel, Malik Herring, Jermaine Johnson, Tre McKitty, Monty Rice, Mark Webb and Devonte Wyatt.

If all 11 players find their way to Mobile early next year, it will break the record set by Alabama in 1987, with the Crimson Tide sending 10 players to the Senior Bowl.
