Baylor Football: Can Bears maintain momentum under new coach in 2020?
How will Baylor football fare in 2020?
Oklahoma was the only team in the conference to beat the Bears last season and they will be waiting at the end of the schedule. The Big 12 will have its usual contenders at the top with the Sooners and the Texas Longhorns, but it is unclear who could step up behind them. Oklahoma State is well thought of, but the Cowboys struggle when the expectations are high.
- Game 1: vs. Louisiana Tech (W) — This should be a solid season-opening win for the Bears.
- Game 2: vs. Kansas (W) — The Jayhawks are still in the Big 12 cellar under Les Miles and Aranda should get his first conference win pretty easily.
- Game 3: at West Virginia (W) — Neal Brown should have the Mountaineers improving, but quarterback questions will prevent West Virginia from being contenders.
- Game 4: vs. Oklahoma State (L) — I think the Cowboys are sneaky playoff contenders this season and have too much firepower for an unproven Baylor secondary.
- Game 5: at Texas (L) — The Longhorns will be under pressure to deliver a big season under Tom Herman and will be on a mission all season.
- Game 6: vs. TCU (W) — This will be a tight game, but TCU has offensive questions and the Baylor defense should be rounding into form by this time.
- Game 7: at Iowa State (L) — Iowa State is a contender in the Big 12 this season and will have a very potent offense behind quarterback Brock Purdy and will have a physical defense.
- Game 8: at Texas Tech (W) — Texas Tech should be improved, but their defense is still among the worst in the entire country and the Bears will win because of it.
- Game 9: vs. Kansas State (W): The Wildcats were a bit of a surprise last season, but are missing a lot of starters and may struggle this season.
- Game 10: at Oklahoma (L) — The Bears came close to unseating the Sooners last season, but came up short. The Bears will come up short again as the Sooners will be looking to make another trip to the playoff.
Final Record: 6-4, 5-4 Big 12
The Bears will be competitive in most games they play in, but due to inexperience on defense, they will struggle to beat the best teams in the conference.
