Scouting Report. Pittsburgh, PA. 2. Pick Analysis. Sep. 8th 2018. Pitt Panthers. player. 866

For Penn State, this game was about revenge. While the Nittany Lions had defeated the Panthers the previous season in State College, they still wanted to erase the bitter defeat in Pittsburgh from the 2016 season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates moved their scheduled night home game up to midday so the Panthers and Nittany Lions could meet in prime time. The weather, however, did not cooperate and Heinz Field was a rain soaked mess by game time.

For the first half of the game, it was closely contested. Both teams moved the ball and scored touchdowns in the first quarter. The Panthers however missed their extra point. In the second quarter, both teams missed field goals. The poor conditions caused a botched punt by Pitt which led to the Nittany Lions second touchdown right before halftime.

In the second half, it was all Penn State. The Nittany Lions would embarrass their in-state rival 51-6 on their home field. While from a neutral perspective, it was not a good game to watch in the second half. But for Nittany Lions fans, it was great to watch a dominant performance and witness the most satisfying win over Pitt since 48-14.
