Miami football: 3 observations from ugly victory over UAB
2. Run game dominated
It was no secret that Miami had to improve the rushing attack, after having one of the worst in the country last season and the Hurricanes could not be more excited for how the team looked running the ball Thursday night.
Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee wants to have a good running attack, having spent time with Gus Malzahn at Auburn and having a quarterback that is a threat in the running game definitely helps in that endeavor.
Cam’Ron Harris was the big star for the Hurricanes, rushing for 134 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns. He did exit the game with an apparent ankle injury so his health will be key going forward for the Hurricanes.
Jaylan Knighton and Don Chaney Jr. were two freshmen that Hurricane fans know well and had their eye on and both showed why they can both be stars sooner rather than later. Knighton rushed for 59 yards on nine carries and Chaney Jr. rushed for 52 yards on eight carries. Both guys may need to step up if Harris missed any extended time.
This was a welcome sight after having a bad ground game last year and it will be something to watch to see if the Canes can keep it up on the ground.
