Winner: Louisiana (No. 19)

There was probably no bigger winner in terms of a single school from the college football weekend than the University of Louisiana. The Ragin’ Cajuns were double-digit underdogs going into Ames against and Iowa State team that many thought could be dark-horse pick to win the Big 12 and make a playoff push even.

Louisiana rode a wave of great special teams and efficient offense to get a resounding 31-14 win over the No. 23 Cyclones. This could be a springboard for the Ragin’ Cajuns to make a run at the Sun Belt title and maybe even a New Year’s Six game.

Louisiana moved up to No. 19 in the AP poll and it will have room to climb as long as it doesn’t get complacent.

Winner: The Sun Belt

You could not have drawn up a better day for the Sun Belt, as it went 3-0 against the Big 12 and the other conference contenders kept up their end of the bargain and dodged a couple of upsets to avoid losing any momentum created by the big wins.

Louisiana moved up to No. 19 in the poll and App State moved into the No. 24 spot. I don’t think that anybody thought that we would have multiple Sun Belt teams ranked at the same time in college football, but that shows you how crazy this season could be.

It’s early, but these two teams could be setting up for the first-ever matchup in the Sun Belt title game between ranked teams and that is just incredible to think about.
