6. Pittsburgh Panthers (1-0)

We at headquarters were shocked that a mercy rule existed in college football. The Governors and the Panthers agreed to play 10-minute quarters in the second half with the Panthers up 42-0 at halftime. Let’s not read too much into this game, but the Panthers’ offense looked outstanding in this one.

Kenny Pickett averaged over 10 yards per pass as this one was over as soon as it started. Austin Peay was overmatched when they ran out of the tunnel. If there is any concern about the offense it is the run game. They were not dominant on the ground averaging only 4.2 yards per carry.

Defensively, the pass rush dominated the line of scrimmage sacking Austin Peay quarterbacks three times in the game. The Gov’s attempted to get rid of the ball quickly to neutralize the Pitt pass rush. This looked more like a scrimmage than an actually game.

The Panthers get another bye week playing Syracuse before they are tested by Louisville on Sept. 26.
