ACC football power rankings, Week 3: Clemson looks dominant yet again
By Dante Pryor
4. Miami Hurricanes (1-0)
Miami’s first game with new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and graduate transfer D’Eriq King at quarterback. It was not perfect or pretty at times, but they defeated the UAB Blazers 31-14 in Miami their first game of the season.
The defense looked sharp and the offense sputtered at times, but the run game was dominant.
The Hurricanes rushing attack went for almost 340 yards with running back Cam’Ron Harris leading the way with 134 yards. The passing game was bad. King was efficient, but not flashy completing 67 percent of his passes and throwing no interceptions. It was the run game that took center stage against the Blazers, however.
It was ground and pound for the Hurricanes. As Miami looks to change the culture in Coral Gables, establishing themselves as a physical football team is a good direction. Like every team that has decided to play this season, Miami had an abbreviated offseason. It showed at times in this game, but the Hurricanes looked hungry and tough. Both good signs for the Hurricanes this season.
