2. Incomplete seasons

By the time this piece is published another college football game will have been postponed. We’re three weeks into the season and 23 games (and counting) have been canceled. 49 games have been played. Houston, Florida Atlantic, Rice and Temple haven’t started their seasons yet.

Roughly one-in-three games that were on the docket in late August have been shelved, most permanently. Not only is this college football season not going to go as planned, it’s going to be disjointed at best. One doesn’t have to look further than Baylor canceling their game against Houston less than 24 hours before kickoff.

We’re going to have conference title races between teams that have played different numbers of games. The College Football Playoff committee is going to have its hands’ full choosing between an undefeated 8-0 conference champ against a 9-1 runner-up. And what happens when a perennial favorite loses more than a game or two? Keeping a 6-0 Alabama out of the title picture is going to make for an interesting discussion this winter.
