2. UAB, South Alabama combine for less than 600 yards

The South Alabama defense has shown out in both of the games that the school has played. They are a physical group up front that plays with a high level of intensity from top to bottom.

The UAB offense will most likely stall and struggle tremendously. South Alabama’s defense is certainly among the better units in the Sun Belt. With a new quarterback on the field, it’s hard to see the Blazers moving up and down the field very well.

South Alabama is going to feel very comfortable going one-on-one with the Blazers on the perimeter. They’ve played a ton of man coverage through the first couple games of the season, it’s part of their defensive identity.

Watch for UAB receiver Austin Watkins, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior receiver, to try and take advantage of the smaller Jaguars defenders. He could provide flashes.

Unfortunately, for South Alabama, they struggle to remain consistent throughout a game on offense. I can foresee a strong second and third quarter, but the momentum doesn’t remain as the offensive line wears down toward the end of the game. UAB’s defense hasn’t been the best through the first couple games of the year, but they hope to push the Jaguars into making mistakes and capitalize off of them.
