College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 5
By Zach Bigalke
After their Week 3 game against Charlotte was canceled after COVID-19 contact tracing depleted key position groups for the 49ers, North Carolina will go three weeks between football games. The Tar Heels took a scheduled bye in Week 4, which will make it hard to maintain position in the AP Top 25 as other teams reenter the rankings this week.
Mack Brown’s team did look great in their season opener against Syracuse, earning a key ACC victory over the Orange. Now, though, they are playing an all-conference schedule without any team expected to replace Charlotte on the slate. North Carolina finds themselves fighting not only Notre Dame but also a surging Miami squad in the quest to reach the ACC championship game against presumptive favorite Clemson.
Play resumes for the Tar Heels in Week 5 when they face their first road test against another resurgent ACC foe, Boston College. Winning in Massachusetts is critical for North Carolina’s dreams of returning to the title game this season.
