College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 5
By Zach Bigalke
Notre Dame’s shutout victory against South Florida proved pyrrhic in a way, as the Fighting Irish dealt with a flare-up of COVID-19 positives on their roster in the wake of the Bulls victory. That forced Notre Dame to postpone their trip south to face Wake Forest this weekend, taking them out of sight right when they needed most to play and hold serve against the returning contingent of SEC teams.
Brian Kelly’s crew posted a solid if unspectacular 27-13 win over Duke in their ACC opener. After Boston College beat the Blue Devils by a wider margin of victory last weekend — with a Notre Dame transfer at quarterback, no less — it will be harder for AP voters to justify a lofty standing for the Irish on their ballots.
Notre Dame won’t be back on the field for Week 5 play, either, as they had a bye week built into the schedule. Their next chance to make an impression won’t come until their October 10 home date against Florida State.
