College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 5
By Zach Bigalke
Michigan should be back in the AP Top 25 again this week after dropping out from their No. 16 position in the preseason. Last week the Wolverines re-entered the Coaches Poll at No. 19, and we will see them hovering somewhere in the high teens or low 20s of the AP rankings in Week 5 after voters were cleared to list returning conferences on their ballots.
Jim Harbaugh’s crew is likely to get the benefit of the doubt even though they return one of the least-experienced rosters of any FBS team this season. The Big Ten did them no favors, as the Wolverines drew Wisconsin and Minnesota for their two interdivisional games. That will make it tougher to run the table, but it will also burnish Michigan’s schedule strength in the eyes of the voters.
The challenges commence immediately on October 24 when the Wolverines head to Minneapolis for a key test against the Golden Gophers that will likely decide which team remains in the poll.
