College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 5
By Zach Bigalke
In the preseason, the Badgers were considered a top-12 team by AP voters. They probably won’t climb that high (the Coaches Poll ranked them at No. 17 last week), but Wisconsin should find themselves comfortably positioned somewhere in the high teens when they reenter the AP Top 25 on Sunday for the first time since August.
Nothing substantive has changed since the preseason, and Paul Chryst’s team remains the favorite in the Big Ten West this season. While it was Nebraska and Iowa that pushed most heavily for a return to fall football, the Badgers will likely be the biggest beneficiary — if they manage to play a full slate, something hardly guaranteed at a school and in a county that has struggled to contain the transmission of COVID-19.
The Badgers get their first taste of 2020 football on October 24, when they welcome Illinois to Camp Randall Stadium. Wisconsin cannot afford to lose to the Illini two years in a row, making this contest a grudge match with high stakes right out of the gate.
