BYU Football: 3 takeaways from dominant Week 4 win over Troy
1. Cougars might be on same level as Cincinnati, UCF
All teams in the FBS have had to make serious adjustments to their fall football schedules to ensure they will have a season. The Cougars are currently slated to play eight games in 2020 with the ninth being the pending date matchup against the Army Black Knights. All the FBS-level conferences will play competitive football this fall.
That doesn’t mean it will be easier to pick the best four teams for the College Football Playoff. The Big Ten and Pac-12 teams will have fewer games to play other teams that have chosen to play football from the beginning. Teams like No. 13 UCF and No. 14 Cincinnati are continuing to win with tough schedules ahead of them.
The Cougars have put themselves in a position to where they are seriously in a position for a playoff push. Non-Power Five programs like BYU, UCF and Cincinnati require them to be great — and somewhat lucky — to earn a playoff spot.
So far, they have gotten lucky with the sudden losses of Oklahoma and LSU. As more teams lose, their chances for one of the playoff spots will continue to rise. They will require to win the eye test by dominating their competition throughout.
Luckily, for the Cougars, they have certainly accounted for this.
