ACC Football Power Rankings, Week 5: There’s a Hurricane brewing
By Dante Pryor
14. Florida State Seminoles (0-2, 0-2)
My, how the mighty have fallen. Many national elite programs have fallen hard before. Michigan, Texas, USC and others have fallen on hard times. The has not been a program that has fallen so hard so fast. The Florida State Seminoles won the last BCS Championship and played in the first College Football Playoff.
That seems like a lifetime ago. In real-time, it was less than a decade. The Seminoles’ defeat at the hands of rival Miami 52-10 made Florida State look like a doormat. There were rumors scientists at the university were going to download the consciousness of Bobby Bowden into an android, but thought better of it when they found out the idea came from a rerun of Futurama.
Seriously, the ‘Noles have a long way to go. It did not help that first-year head coach Mike Norvell was not able to coach due to a Coronavirus diagnosis. What is most disturbing is the defense did not put up a fight against Miami. Maybe Georgia Tech’s offense is a more significant work in progress than first thought.
They get a reprieve against Jacksonville State before they begin a stretch that includes Notre Dame, North Carolina and Louisville.
