5. K.J. Costello, QB, Mississippi State

Last Game: win vs. LSU (44-34) 36-60, 623 yards, 5 TDs, 2 INTs
Season Stats: 60% completions, 623 yards, 5 TDs, 2 INTs, 168.1 RTG

Transfer success again? Joining Bulldogs newly-hired passing guru Mike Leach at Mississippi State is K.J. Costello, a former Stanford starter with plenty of arm talent to carry Mississippi State for an entire season.

After just one game in the conference, he’s already the SEC’s single-game passing-yardage leader after an upset win on the road over reigning national champion LSU last Saturday. His numbers should be gaudy by the end of this season if he continues upsetting other conference powers, which ultimately would provide plenty of fuel for his ascension to the top of our Heisman list.

Under Leach’s tutelage, Costello should provide opposing defensive coordinators with plenty of headaches in the weeks ahead.
