College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 6
By Zach Bigalke
In a week where the Ragin’ Cajuns didn’t even play football, upsets elsewhere around the country allowed the Sun Belt favorites to jump back into the AP Top 25. With the Big 12 continuing to cannibalize itself after going 0-3 against Sun Belt teams, enough voters will return to Billy Napier’s team to lift spirits in Lafayette over the bye week.
The signature win for Louisiana remains their season opener, where they went to Ames and took down Iowa State by 17 points. Given Oklahoma’s struggles to deal with the Cyclones on the same field, Louisiana is going to get a bump from pollsters. With enough voters keeping Big Ten and Pac-12 teams off their ballots along with Group of Five teams that have yet to take the field, the Ragin’ Cajuns will get enough votes to put them over the cut line.
Next week they will get the chance to consolidate their position in the AP Top 25 when they welcome Coastal Carolina to Lafayette in a matchup of undefeated Sun Belt teams that both took down Big 12 opponents. The winner of that Week 6 showdown will stake out the league’s claim in the Group of Five race for a New Year’s Six bid.
