College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 6
By Zach Bigalke
Virginia Tech felt like one of the biggest omissions from the AP Top 25 heading into Week 5, and Justin Fuente’s team proved they belong in the rankings after prevailing 38-31 on the road against Duke. The Hokies improved to 2-0 on the season, with both wins coming in conference play in a season where the top two teams advance to the championship game regardless of normal divisional affiliations.
Braxton Burmeister, the transfer from Oregon, had a dismal game at quarterback for the Hokies. Burmeister completed only nine of his 25 passing attempts, finishing with 163 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He did add two rushing touchdowns and 54 yards on the ground, finishing second on the team in rushing behind Khalil Herbert’s monster 208-yard, two-score performance.
Virginia Tech still has issues to sort out if they hope to seriously compete for the ACC this season, and we will see whether or not they can sort them out in time for next week’s showdown of ranked teams at North Carolina.
