College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 6
By Zach Bigalke
In the end it is hardly surprising that Texas A&M couldn’t quite hang with No. 2 Alabama when they visited Tuscaloosa in Week 5. The Aggies managed to pull level at 14-14 with the Crimson Tide when they converted a Mac Jones interception into seven points just 16 seconds into the second quarter. By halftime it was already 35-14, and it only got worse from there. As a result, Jimbo Fisher’s team will undoubtedly slide down but not out of the AP Top 25 this week.
It all came down to a passing battle between Kellen Mond and Jones, and despite his costly interception Jones won out handily for Alabama. Mond was hardly a pushover, throwing for 318 yards with three touchdowns and an interception on 25-of-44 passing. He added 19 yards on the ground, but it was hardly enough to match the 435 yards and four touchdowns that the A&M defense allowed Jones to rack up on them.
The Aggies cannot mope too long on the death of an upset dream that was always the longest of longshots. Now Texas A&M must immediately turn its attention to Week 6, when they host top-five Florida at Kyle Field in a tough interdivisional battle that could make or break the Aggies’ time in the Top 25 this season.
