College Football 2020: Top 5 Heisman candidates after Week 5
By Nick Fiore
1. Kyle Trask, QB, Florida
After jumping to the top of my rankings last week, Kyle Trask holds onto the No. 1 spot this week after tossing four touchdowns against South Carolina.
In two games thus far, Trask has thrown for 684 yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception. Joe Burrow threw for 749 yards and nine touchdowns in his first two games in 2019. We’ll see if Trask is able to keep pace with Burrow’s record-setting season.
If Florida is going to compete for the SEC title and a playoff berth, it’s going to be on the back of Trask, though. This defense has really struggled to start the season and looks like it could be the Achilles heel of a potential national title contender. Unless something changes fast on that side of the ball, Trask will need to continue putting up these video game numbers for Florida to win games.
With the likelihood of Trask continuing to put up huge numbers, he seems like the most likely guy to get an invite to the Heisman ceremony, second to maybe Trevor Lawrence.
The Gators have a huge game against Texas A&M this week and this will be Trask’s first opportunity to put up numbers in a big-time game.
