College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 7
By Zach Bigalke
North Carolina nudges ever closer to the top five in the AP Top 25 as teams above them collapse week after week. Coming into Week 6 the Tar Heels were up to No. 8 in the poll, and they will likely be a spot or two higher after a 56-45 takedown of then-No. 19 Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill. Mack Brown’s team remains undefeated and is now tied with Clemson atop the single-division ACC standings.
Sam Howell was an ultra-efficient 18-of-23 for 257 yards and three touchdowns through the air, and the quarterback added 19 yards on the ground. The big story for the Tar Heels was a backfield that finished with 399 rushing yards and five touchdowns against the Hokies. Michael Carter led the way with 214 yards and two scores on 17 carries, and Javonte Williams added 169 yards and two rushing scores along with 55 receiving yards on 22 total touches.
With a legitimate claim as one of the two best teams in the ACC, North Carolina heads into Week 7 with their spot in the top 10 locked down ahead of their October 17 trip to Tallahassee to face Florida State.
