3. Jeff Hafley has his quarterback

It is hard to watch Boston College play and not ask yourself, “Why couldn’t Phil Jurkovec challenge Ian Book at Notre Dame?”

Jurkovec stood up to a stout Pitt defense despite having no run game to support him. There were some questions about whether or not he could adjust to offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti’s pro-style attack. Jurkovec has found himself comfortable in the offense and Cignetti has tailored the offense to his quarterback’s strengths.

The Notre Dame transfer has gotten comfortable with two targets on the offense. Zay Flowers and Hunter Long caught 12 of Jurkovec’s 19 completions.

And Jurkovec has taken on the personality of the head coach Jeff Hafley. There is no position more important to building a program than quarterback. He has proven to be a reliable playmaker so far this season while taking care of the football.

Hafley having his quarterback so early in the process allows him to build the rest of the program.
