2. Defense nearing one of the worst in the SEC

On the other side of the ball, the Crimson Tide have a lot to worry about with their defense this season. The defense for the Crimson Tide knew they had a tough task this past Saturday as they faced the Rebels offense who was ranked third in the SEC in points per game (38.5) and first in the SEC in total yards per game (536).

The defense for the Tide failed in every way imaginable, which almost cost the Tide the game.

The defense for Tide gave up 647 total yards to the Rebels’ high-powered offense that has the ability to cause misdirection. Of the 647 total yards, 379 of them came from the passing game and 268 of them were on the ground. The Rebels were 9-for-17 on third-down conversions and were 4-for-4 on fourth-downs.

The Tide’s defense was unable to stop the Rebels and get off the field on key plays. Of the six touchdowns from Ole Miss, four of them were on 10 or more plays. One drive for Ole Miss took 16 plays to score a touchdown and took 6:08 off the clock.

This is a defense that still has problems winning key matchups and getting some impact from other new starters and some of their more experienced players. The pass rush for the Crimson Tide is still playing at an inefficient level as they only have five sacks in three games. The 647 total yards for Ole Miss is the most ever allowed in school history.
