3. Miami thrashed by Clemson

The No. 7 Miami Hurricanes looked like they were back to being an elite team in the ACC and the nation. They had been under the spotlight of the game of the week with their two previous games at No. 18 Louisville and the Florida State Seminoles. The Hurricanes were playing great with their dynamic duo in dual-threat quarterback D’Eriq King and running back Cam’Ron Harris.

Miami had their biggest test of the season as they traveled to the No. 1 Clemson Tigers. This was the biggest game for both teams at this point in the young season. The Hurricanes needed either a win or a close loss to the Tigers to be in the close hunt for the playoff. Instead, the Hurricanes efficient offense were dominated as they only had 220 total yards and nine first downs on offense.

Miami was 4-for-15 on third-down conversions and experienced three turnovers. King was the only player for the Hurricanes to experience any kind of production against the Tigers. He threw for 121 yards, two interceptions and a QBR of 62.3 on 12-of-28 passing as well as rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Harris was held to three yards on eight carries.

The Tigers had the better quarterback/running back duo in the game as Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne both played excellent. Lawrence passed for 292 yards, three touchdowns, and a QBR of 81.6 while passing for 29-of-41 completions while rushing for one rushing touchdown. Etienne rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.

The Hurricanes will need to get better at every position and fix their key flaws on both sides of the ball for one more chance to compete for a conference title and a potential playoff spot.
