1. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson

One of these weeks, Trevor Lawrence was going to take over the top spot as the Heisman favorite and it looks like this is the one after he torched Miami.

Clemson and Lawrence hadn’t looked dominant to start their season but they never had to. They were able to go on cruise control in the second halves of each of their games but they did the opposite against Miami, winning the second half 21-7.

Lawrence threw for 292 yards, three touchdowns and ran for another score. Those numbers don’t jump off the page and neither do his season stats right now. Currently, Lawrence ranks 10th in passing yards, is tied for fifth in passing touchdowns, fifth in completion percentage and fifth in QBR. He did what he had to in the primetime game against a top ranked team to earn the top spot on this week’s Heisman watch list.

The concern with Lawrence going forward is that Clemson should dominate weaker ACC opponents and he may not have the opportunity to put up monster numbers like some other quarterbacks. We’ll see how that plays out in the next few weeks but for now Lawrence looks a sure thing to get an invite to the Heisman ceremony.
