9. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (2-3, 2-2)

In year two of the Geoff Collins experience, The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have been competitive and shown improvement the season. Who thought the ‘Jackets would have two wins this early in the season? Collins has found his quarterback in freshman Jeff Sims who leads the team in both passing and rushing yards.

The defense, which is very young, has taken its lumps this season. The defense has given up 20 points per game in their two wins and 43 points in their two losses. Last week the defense was decent in spots in their 46-27 victory against Louisville. The Cardinals actually out-gained Georgia Tech, but turned the ball over three times. Louisville’s running game racked up 242 yards against the Yellow Jackets; something Geoff Collins is sure to want to correct.

The measuring stick game comes this week against Clemson. The Yellow Jackets have no chance in this game. However, rebuilding programs need these games just to see how far they are from the elite teams in their conference. If the Jackets want to hang around for any length of time, Jeff Sims has to play better.

He seems to be thinking instaed of reacting. Sims needs to show what he has against the No. 1 team in the country.
