ACC Football Power Rankings, Week 6: Hurricanes downgraded to rain shower

8. Virginia Tech Hokies (2-1, 2-1)
On the Virginia Tech football webpage, it says that Justin Fuente is the head coach. That might not be accurate. The way the Hokies have hung in there and played with both injuries and COVID-19 issues, MacGuyver is more likely to be their head coach. This team has been held together by paper clips, chewing gum, heart and an outstanding season by Kansas transfer Khalil Herbert.
The Hokies have played their last two games with a combination of over 20 players and coaches out due to COVID-19 and contact tracing. Despite being depleted in the secondary and without their starting quarterback, the Hokies handily defeated North Carolina Sate and almost pulled out a comeback win against North Carolina.
One of the key reasons for this is Kansas transfer Khalil Herbert. Herbert has as many touchdowns rushing (5) as all three quarterbacks have passing combined. What’s even more impressive is the Hokies don’t know who is going to be available week to week. The Hokies got quarterback Hendon Hooker back this week, but it remains to be seen who they get back this week.
The Hokies depth issues will be put to the test this week when Phil Jurkovec and the improved Boston College Eagles come to Blacksburg this week. Few outside of Chestnut Hill expected the Eagles to be this good, but here they are 3-1. MacGuyver better break out the duct tape.
