Indiana Football: Can the Hoosiers return to the postseason in 2020?
By Dante Pryor
Michael Penix Jr. leads a talented offense
The Hoosiers are all in on highly-touted quarterback Michael Penix Jr. Last year’s starter Peyton Ramsey has transferred to Northwestern, believing he can be a full-time starter there. Penix spurned the likes of Florida State and Tennessee to go to Indiana.
The question with Penix is his health. He’s dealt with injuries since he’s been on campus and does not have a veteran like Peyton Ramsey to back him up this season. Penix has all the tools to be a really good quarterback in the Big Ten and has talent around him if he can stay in the lineup.
One of the many talented players Penix has is last season’s leading rusher all-purpose running back Stevie Scott. Last season, Scott registered 1.056 total yards and 11 total touchdowns.
Penix also has three of last season’s top receivers back as well.
Whop Philyor, Ty Fryfogle and Peyton Hendershot all return for the Hoosiers next season — if Hendershot is reinstated after his suspension. The Hoosiers have a glaring offensive weakness along their offensive line. They do not hold up well against the elite defensive lines of the Big Ten.
Caleb Jones and Stanford transfer Dylan Powell anchor a squad that cannot afford injuries. If Penix and Scott can stay healthy, this group could be more potent than last year’s squad.
