2. Zach Wilson shined once again

Coming into this season, there wasn’t much certainty that BYU would get to play anything close to a full schedule. But in typical 2020 fashion, their junior quarterback Zach Wilson has emerged as a Heisman candidate.

While BYU has produced quality quarterbacks, such as Steve Young and the legendary Taysom Hill, not many people can truthfully say that they saw this coming.

In BYU’s biggest game of the season so far, Wilson took no time to get going. In his first snap from scrimmage, Wilson connected with Dax Milne for a 78-yard touchdown to take the lead. This would be the first of the duo’s three touchdowns on the evening.

Can we take a moment to appreciate Wilson’s stat line? In 35 attempts, the junior completed 25 passes for 400 yards and four touchdowns. This could have very well been five touchdowns if it weren’t for a late drop. People may have not been taking the Heisman talk seriously up to this point, but it will be hard to maintain this stance if he keeps up this pace.

Wilson not only brings skill to this team, but he is a true leader in every sense. One example that stood out came late in the fourth quarter when he scrambled for a clutch 24 yard rush to get his team near field goal range. After being tackled, Wilson extended his hand and helped the tackling defender off the ground. While this may not affect the scoreboard, this gesture really shows the kind of leader he is.

How can you not root for this guy?
