3. Trevor Lawrence is leading the Heisman race by a mile

This may be a bit unfair as the Big Ten and Pac-12 have yet to start their seasons. Both of those conferences will have legitimate Heisman candidates. But, it is just difficult to see anybody top what Trevor Lawrence is doing in what is likely his final season at Clemson.

Today, Lawrence was nothing but dominant as he finished with career highs in passing yards (404) and passing touchdowns (five). With Lawrence running the offense the Tigers punted just one time in 11 drives. Turning the ball over twice in a half would hold most teams in the nation back. For the Tigers it just means 52 points instead of 66 points.

After today’s game, Lawrence has a 15-1 passing touchdown-to-interception ratio. Lawrence has also completed 70 percent of his passes in 4-of-5 games. Add on 1,544 passing yards and four rushing scores and we are watching an incredible start to the 2020 season for Lawrence.

So far the only guy who can compete with Lawrence’s 2020 campaign is Zach Wilson from BYU but even that is a stretch.

Of course, Justin Fields is waiting in the wings and will get his chance next week to begin his Heisman campaign. The problem is he will have a lot of catching up to do up against Lawrence, who has a sizable lead on the Heisman race.
