College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
Texas A&M took full advantage of a one-dimensional Mike Leach offense to secure a relatively simple 28-14 victory on the road in Starkville against Mississippi State. The Aggies never trailed in what proved to be a defensive masterpiece. Jimbo Fisher’s crew should continue to sit somewhere just outside the top 10 of the AP Top 25 when the dust settles and the next poll is released ahead of Week 8 play.
Kellen Mond threw for only 139 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception, on 13-of-23 passing. Isaiah Spiller was the true difference maker for the offense, racking up two scores on the ground and 114 rushing yards and adding a pair of catches out of the backfield for good measure. The Aggies defense also stood tall, allowing just 219 passing yards to the the quarterback tandem of Will Rogers and K.J. Costello and holding the Bulldogs ground game to negative net yardage.
Texas A&M now returns to College Station for a bye in Week 8 before their Halloween showdown against a suddenly resurgent and threatening Arkansas squad. At this point the Aggies will likely be favored in every game the rest of the way.
