College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
Georgia took a 24-20 lead into the locker room at halftime of their road battle against Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium in the prime-time matchup on Saturday. Then they came out flat for the second half and were shut out by their hosts, collapsing in a 41-24 defeat that was their first of the year. Given this was a duel between the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the country, Georgia should only fall just outside the top five in the next AP Top 25.
Stetson Bennett just couldn’t keep pace with Mac Jones, as the inexperienced quarterback completed only 18 of his 40 passing attempts and threw three interceptions against Alabama’s defense. When they tried running the ball, Georgia couldn’t rely on any one running back to churn out a ton of hard yards. The six players who carried the ball a combined 30 times ultimately churned out 145 yards on the ground.
Now Georgia must dust itself off and refocus itself on an SEC East race that suddenly tightened back up again. The Bulldogs are off in Week 8 before their Halloween test against Kentucky and the November 7 showdown against Florida in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.
