College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
Slowly warming up into their home showdown against Boston College, Virginia Tech eventually found themselves pulling away in the second half for a 40-14 victory over the Eagles. With the win, the Hokies keep themselves within distance in the ACC race and will move up a couple of spots in the AP Top 25 for Week 8 when it comes out on Sunday.
Hendon Hooker didn’t have to do too much with his arm, finishing the game with 111 yards and a touchdown on 11-of-15 passing. The quarterback did even more damage with his legs, carrying the ball 18 times for 164 yards and three scores. He joined Khalil Herbert in tripled digits for rushing yards, as the running back churned out 143 yards on 18 carries. Running made the difference, as Virginia Tech held Boston College to just 90 rushing yards.
Over the next two weeks Virginia Tech heads on the road, with Wake Forest on the docket in Week 8 and then a trip to Louisville for Halloween. Their return home for the November 7 showdown against Liberty could also prove to be a matchup of AP Top 25 teams.
