College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
Iowa State shook off their season-opening upset by Louisiana to win their third straight in Big 12 play in Week 6, downing Texas Tech 31-15 at home. That bumped the Cyclones up to No. 20 in the AP Top 25 ahead of their bye this weekend. Matt Campbell’s squad could move a spot or two up the rankings on this idle weekend as they remain tied with Kansas State atop the conference standings.
Brock Purdy has hardly been the world-beater we expected to see when he returned for his junior season in Ames. Purdy’s yards per attempt has dropped by more than a full yard, his passing efficiency is down by nearly 20 points, and he averages nearly 80 fewer passing yards per game. Breece Hall has picked up the slack, as he entered Week 7 ranked second in rushing touchdowns in third nationally in rushing yards per game.
We will know more about where Iowa State stands in Week 8 when they travel to Stillwater for a battle against undefeated Oklahoma State. If the Cyclones win on the road, they will enter Halloween weekend as the top-ranked team in the Big 12.
